WHO IS A MEDICAL CODER?
A Medical Coder is in charge of converting a patient's record into an insurance-accepted coding system and processing claims for reimbursement from providers in compliance with provider agreements or other arrangements between parties involved that may govern amounts at various levels. To maintain completeness in medical records, a Medical Coder will perform verification and coding of the diagnostic, evaluation, and management procedures. When checking a patient's data, such as operation codes or other particular therapies offered during their visit, coders must also review component portions for accuracy.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF A MEDICAL CODER?
- Account for patient encounter coding and abstracting.
- Investigate and analyse data requirements for reimbursement.
